SIW (System Information for Windows)

Software Name: SIW (System Information for Windows)

License: FREE

Version: Nil

File Size: 2,101kb

Can be downloaded at: http://www.gtopala.com/

As the name suggested, it shows you all the information you want about the system at a glance. It’s like getting a health checkup. Anything and everything about the system is shown. It is quite surprising how this software can be quite powerful. As we will introduce further, this is definitely the freeware tool you need for your computer forensics investigation.

The interface is simple and easy to use. On the left hand side of the frame, it allows you to select the information you want to know. Mainly it is organised into Software, Hardware and Network.

Certain information such as the “Installed Programs” or “Protected Files” require some CPU processing speed so do not be surprised that there may be some waiting time required.

You will be surprised that it even reveals commonly used passwords under the category “Secrets” and software license keys under “Licenses”.

SIW has provided you the option of getting what you see all compiled into a report in html, csv, xml or txt format.

SIW also added some small applications to further enhance its software. One of them is network traffic. It shows you a realtime incoming and outgoing network graph at a glance.

Another small feature called Eureka! Just drag the magnifying class over to any password field to reveal the text. Did some tests and found out it does not work on Mozilla Firefox, but it works on Internet Explorer.

SIW has definitely surprised us more than we expect. It reveals almost everything that you did not even know it exists. With a freeware that has so many to give, you definitely want to download it and try!
